Stencil Girls

Here are my two latest pages in one of my Art Journals.  These are based on stencils from Jane Davenport's girly series.  This is only one face of four stencils - all the painting, shading and hair is my design just the face shape is from the stencil.

The first one with the peacock has napkins under the image to give it a bit of depth.  There are three other stencils which I will play around with soon and see what I can create.

Finished Graffiti Pillows

From looking at my last posts I realized that I have not posted any photos of "finished graffiti pillows" so I now will.  These are my finished ones which I am will either give away as pressies to friends (of course that is if they like them...) or sometime in the future start my online store and sell them.  So here are some photos - let me know what you like or don't like so I can improve for future ones.  I do have photos of others but just can't locate the photos on my computer - so here are a few different pillows I have created with my graffiti pieces of fabric.

Update - I'm Back

Life gets busy and other things get in the way sometimes so I can't believe my last post was in 2012!!!  Shock horror - so have decided to get back into the swing of things.  Am looking at other sites so I can restart my blog with the idea of setting up an online store of some sort but in the meantime I will continue with this one which has been forgotten about.

So keep posted and I will add some more crafty things I have been up to.

Making Graffiti Pillows

These are the start of my graffiti pillows - I have taken a couple of my hand painted fabrics - I selected two colours, cut them up into different size pieces and sewed them back together with lots of white zig zag and curvy sewing.  Then I cut out my words and sewed them on in black zig zag.  Now I just have to hand paint a couple of back pieces and put them all together as an actual pillow.  I do like them so far but also think I could be a bit more "wild" with the graffiti on the backgrounds.   But these are my first two so will see how we go.

Fabric Painting

Been having fun creating hand painted fabric pieces following Alisa Burke's book "Sew Wild".  Before I can do any sewing which I can't wait to do I have to create lots of painted fabric pieces.  Here is a selection I have already done - all different styles and colours.  The first item I want to sew is graffiti pillows which means a lot of writing all over my painted pieces and some messy painting - don't have any photos of those ones yet. 

Pink Water Lilly

Can't believe it's been months since my last post - I will have to try and post something more often - not that I think I have many people following me!!  Anyway - here is another reworked painting of a pink water lilly - it was too plain so I totally reworked the background and extended out the flower - made it all a lot messier.  I was trying to be a bit wild and loose.  Still don't know if it looks OK but will stop here for now.

Reworked Painting with Birds

With all this rainy weather I have busy pottering around in my craft room. Decided to rework an old painting I didn't like - you may recognise the bottom half of this painting from a previous post. This is a mixed media piece with paper collage - I just love the little birdies and the background texture - I was hoping it would look like a forest with lots of suggestions of background twigs, grass and trees. Just not too sure about the white writing - maybe it should have been a bit bigger ?

Girlie Affirmation Painting No 1

This is the first painting of two girlie affirmation paintings. I wanted to create a girl with wings and add positive affirmations to her dress. I felt like the features on her face were a bit small and that the affirmations could have been bigger - so I did a second one.

Girlie Affirmation Paintings No 2

This is the second painting of a girl with wings giving some positive affirmations. I used the crumbled tissue paper background to give it a bit more texture and make the background a bit more interesting. I also made the features on the face a bit bigger and the fonts of the affirmations on her dress bigger. I do prefer this one to the first one I created.

Flower Collage Cards

Big changes!!! I have changed my blog name to Kerry's Artistic Creations - you will find all sorts of things here - exciting stuff to come - can only hope.

My last project was following on from the last technique only on a smaller scale. I painted a whole lot of little flower collage paintings and made them into cards. Rather fiddly cutting up all those little flower circles but have ended up with a few rather nice cards - well I think so anyway.

New Name

As Li-Sa and I have not been doing any "art challenges" I think I need to come up with a new name for my blog not that I seem to be doing too much on it lately. I do have a few new things to post as soon as I download some photos to share with anyone who is reading this! Am thinking along the line of Kerry's Creative Passions, Creative Things by Kerry? - not certain what to call it from now on???

Paper Flowers Collage

This is my latest painting which is a mixture of acrylic paint, pastels, tissue paper and collage. I found the idea by Serena Wilson Stubson in my favourite magazine Cloth, Paper, Scissors and thought I would give it a go. I love the texture the crumbled tissue paper gives to the background . I rubbed some pastels over the painted surface and this gave the painting a bit more depth. Wasn't certain about it all to start with but just love the end result - so much so I may do another one, very soon!

Fabric Wall Hanging

Can't believe it's been so long since I last added something new. Li-Sa and I have not had any art challenges but I have kept myself busy doing lots of different things. Have just completed a fabric wall hanging. This one is just to get me started and learn from and see what I like or don't like. Started with the black and white pictures from my fabric stash and grew from there.

Splat 1 & 2

Haven't posted anything in a while so thought I should add something new. I have these two little silver picture frames so decided to paint something simple using only black and white. So I have created Splat 1 and Splat 2. Hanging on my wall now so I can decide if I like them.

Paper Quilt

Got an idea from one of my magazines using different coloured watercolour paints, cutting them up into squares and then attaching or sewing onto another piece of paper. Just a play around with different colours and designs.

Fused Plastic Bags - Recyled

Have been busy sewing and making things out of my painted fused plastic bags. I made a couple of glasses cases with felt on the inside, note book covers and little clutches. I also created a folder from a cereal box which is my favourite - I can see myself using this and would like to made some more as I use up by cereal! Have taken a lot of photos of each bag and can see me using this as a background for future projects of some sort.

Fused Plastic Bags

Here are photos of my painted fused plastic bags and one cereal box. I have embellished a couple of the bags with some sewing, cord and yarn. My next step will be to "create" something useful from each one. I have used acrylic paint on all of them and then sprayed a matt finish to help seal them. But I have found that you can still scratch the paint off the plastic. So I really need to find a paint that adheres a little bit better to the plastic.

Still working on my fused plastic bag project - should have some photos to add soon of the bags all painted up ready for the next stage. But just wanted to add a note about a new blog I am starting to follow and that is Creative Juice Arts by Chris Zydel a wonderful lady from California. How I wish I lived there so I could attend one of her classes. I connect with everything she writes. It makes me believe in myself, it makes me want to find the time to be creative and paint, it makes me be a better me!! It's all about intuitive process painting not about painting the "correct" way. While I want to paint wonderful correct paintings that wild part inside of me wants to paint without restriction, without rules. So check her out see what you think.

Recyle Month - Plastic Shopping Bags

Melting/Fusing Plastic Shopping Bags

Have spent today cutting up those plastic shopping bags and putting together about 8 pieces for each new piece. Have already discovered that the thicker plastic type of bags don't work that well on their own as they melt into my paper and sticks to it. The grocery type of shopping bag works much better if you have about 8 pieces. Just don't leave the iron too long in one spot as you will end up with holes which can give it a good interesting look if that's what you want. So these are today's "fused" pieces. Now ready for the painting part of the process.

Can't believe its been a few weeks since my last painting. I have been getting side tracked with all the normal chores everyone has, going to work and catching up with friends. It seems if you don't make an "actual time" to stop and create art work and be creative then it doesn't happen. There always seems to be something else that has to be done. Before you know it, weeks has gone past and I haven't picked up a paint brush or pencil and am starting to get a bit grumpy! You go through a slump and nothing inspires you or gets you going. How will I ever get better and improve if I don't stop be creative. How will I ever sell anything or make any income out of my hobby if I don't improve and keep going at it. Will I only ever dabble around the edges and never make a go of it. I feel like I don't put enough effort or time in to art to make it all worthwhile.

Anyway - will make the time to play and try new things or improve on the old. Maybe what I should do is give myself monthly challenges and spend that time expanding on the one idea or thought. I start too many things - something doesn't work like want or I get bored - wait for paint to dry and then start something new and don't finish what I started!! Energy going all different directions - no wonder I don't get anywhere.

So right now I am concentrating on using "recycle" things. Currently fusing plastic shopping bags together, painting on them and creating "new" items from them. Will post when I have created a few. Found this idea in my Cloth, Paper, Scissors magazines which I love and have been wanting to try for a while now.
